I think it's a shame that Luna didn't get more of an introduction in the movie. The director was probably up against huge time constraints. Maybe there will be some good extra footage in the DVD release.

Yeah, although she did get introduced in the same way she did in the book: reading the Quibbler upside-down. However, I think in the book they were on the train when she was first introduced, with her wand perched behind her ear. I thought it was cool how the actress basically cast herself in the role; she told the director that she was the ideal Luna Lovegood, and she won the part.

I thought Luna was kind of clever; she's always been my favorite character since I read the fifth book, but she could have appeared sooner in the movie, like she did on the train.

Been a while since I've seen the movie, and since I wasn't a big fan of it, it's harder for me to remember specifics, but how could she appear sooner? They don't really show the train much anyway. She was on the carriage to school, which is in the beginning.
The character of Luna was one of the things I was happy about. She was introduced well and had good scenes with Harry. With so much that happened in the book, Luna was given a great introduction. Plus, you have to remember, she isn't really important in the other two movies; it was just OotP.
